Need Help with Problem 8 for Genetics Please!
8. Two strains of a plant called shepherds purse (Capsella bursapastoris), a widespread lawn and roadside weed of the mustard family, are compared. In strain 1, the recombination frequency between genes A and B is 6%, whereas in strain 2, it is 50%. The Fl progeny from a cross between these strains produce gametes with the following properties: About half are viable and contain only nonrecombinant chromosomes, and about half are nonviable. How can these results be explained? (4 points)

Answer #1

Inversion might have taken place. During recombinations, sometimes inversions ( breakage of DNA and joins again in a reverse direction to the strand of chromosome) do takes place .In case of paracentric and pericentric inversions crossover products are not recovered but for different reasons.

For single crossovers, the frequency of recombinant gametes is half the frequency of crossing over because A) A testeross between a homozygous and heterozygote produces 1/2 heterozygous and 1/2 homozygous progeny. i need some help with this lab ASAP please! HUMAN GENETICS It to study because of the relatively long life span and the limited number In addition, the number of chromosome pairs (23) increases the possible number of genetic combinations. It is possible, however, to take a sample from human frequency of a trait and the possible ways a given trait is inherited. populations to estimate the Objectives .Investigate the inheritance of some human traits. need help with this .. From the pages 571-587 attached below. 1a) Suppose a population of guppies was infected with a parasite. In that population a mutation results in a parasite resistant genotype that spreads through the population through natural selection. A subsequent mutation in the parasite results in a genotype that is unaffected by the newly evolved resistant guppy genotype. What is the name of the hypothesis that explains this host parasite “arms race”.? 1b) What is this name...
