Describe the purpose of the Define phase of a Lean Six Sigma project (in your own words).

There are five phases in Lean Six Sigma project. These are also known as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) tools and activities.

The Define phase is the first step of the lean six sigma project in which the team members define the problem statement and goal of the project. The requirements of the customers are studied and analyzed and the plan on how to accomplish the project goals is discussed. The output of the define phase is usually a project charter, SMART analysis of customer requirements and a process flowchart. In simpler terms, in define phase, project teams highlight the major customer problems and the customer issues that they wish to address through their project.
