A sample of gas has an initial temperature of 273 K and a volume of 12.8 L. If the temperature is increased at a constant pressure, will the volume increase or decrease. Indicate which one clearly. Find the new volume if the new temperature is 300 K?

SOLUTION :


As per gas law, PV = RT 

=> At constant pressure and R being gas constant, V is proportional to T .


So, as temperature rises at constant pressure, volume will INCREASE. (ANSWER).

 


New T = 300 K


So, 


 V new / V initial  = T new / T initial

=> V new / 12.8 = 300 / 273

=> V new = 300 / 273 * 12.8

=> V new = 14.066 L (ANSWER)
