  1. A researcher is interested in seeing if playing violent video games leads to a change in aggressive attitudes. The researcher recruits an experimental group, who plays a violent video game for 1 hour, and a control group. Both groups complete a measurement instrument that measures their aggressive attitudes on a scale of 0-100.

    A. What type of study design is this (descriptive, correlational, or experimental)?

    B. What would be the appropriate statistical analysis to use in that situation (Chi-Square, Pearson correlation, one sample t-test, paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test, or ANOVA)?

Answer #1

A. Clearly researcher is trying to find the relationship among variables namely aggressive attitudes and playing violent video games. For this he deviced two experimental groups who played violent and non violent video games. Thus experimental study design is used here.

B. Independent sample t-test would be appropriate to use as the model assumes that a difference in the mean score of the dependent variable (which aggressiveness) is found because of the influence of the independent variable (which is playing violent video games) this feature distinguishes the two groups. that distinguishes the two groups.

A researcher is examining whether the effect of violent video games on aggressive behavior is the same at different ages. She recruited 90 participants, 30 from elementary schools, 30 from junior high schools and 30 from senior high schools. She then assigned half of the participants in each age group to play violent video games and another half to play non-violent video games. Aggressive behaviors were observed after children playing video games. Question: Which type of analysis is most appropriate...
