Question

For an airplane in flight, the average speed of the air relative to the plane is...

For an airplane in flight, the average speed of the air relative to the plane is 320 m/s below the wings and 352 m/s above the wings (see the figure below). The bottom of each wing has a surface area of 30.9 m2. Calculate the lift, which is the net upward force of air on the plane.

Answer #1

BY applying bernoullis equation between the upper and lower point
P1/p + V12 /2 + gH1 = P2/p + V22/2 + gH2
Neglecting H term because approx same
(P1 - P2) = p(V22 - V12 )/2
Where p is density of air taking as p = 1.2 kg/m3
(P1 - P2) = 1.2*(3522 - 3202)/2 = 12.902 kPa
Force = Pressure*area
Therefore Lift force = 12.902*30.9 = 398.68 kN
