A single-reduction gear arrangement will be used to transmit 22 kW of power at 1200 rpm. A schematic of the gear shaft is shown below with its dimensions. Design a shaft to withstand the static loadings shown. Our Chief Engineer requests a factor of safety of at least 2.0. We will use AISI 1050 CD steel for the shaft material. Keep track of your hours so your Chief Engineer can estimate the cost of this project. Use the following format: Start Time End Time Duration Hrs Description of worlk Total project time The following will be evaluated: Free body diagram Static equilibrium Internal torsional, shear force, and bending moment load diagrams Identification of location(s) of maximum stress Use of Mohrs circle Selection of an appropriate failure theory with rationale Application of that failure theory to determine a shaft diameter that meets requirements Note that this is a holistic problem.
