Taken as a group, the Italian painters, Duccio, Simone Martini, the Lorenzetti Brothers, et. al. were practicing their craft on the cusp of a new era in two-dimensional art. While painting space as realistically as possible would seem to be a great advance, what did they lose? Is there a price to be paid for realism?

Answer #1

The Italian painters, Duccio, Simone Martini, the Lorenzetti Brothers, et. al. were practicing their craft on the cusp of a new era in two-dimensional art it means they used only two axis but in drawing cusp(i.e pointed end where two curves meet) for realistic, they have to used three dimensional because it'S needs for gave depth to painting. Every object around as has depth in realistic. They lost depth in practicing their craft on the cusp of a new era. No,without depth practicing their craft on the cusp is worthless in case, when they had paid for realism.
