Quality control

A process starts out of statistical control but this is not known to the user.

It will be stopped after T hr.

Once a sample average falls outside the control limits, the process is stopped and investigated.

It takes ta hours to find the assignable cause and repair the process at a cost of ca.

Units produced under the presence of the assignable cause are assumed nonconforming. Cost of a nonconforming unit is cn.

The process generates N units/hour.

Once the process is repaired it will stay in statistical control to the end of the period.

Process investigation, in case of false alarm, takes tf hours and costs cf.

To take a sample, there is a fixed cost a1 and cost for each observation a2

The sample size is n, the control limits is L, and the time between samples is h.

Find the cost of monitoring this process.

Boxes of cereals are supposed to weigh exactly 14 oz. Inspectors want to develop process control charts. They take ten samples of six boxes per sample and weigh them. Based on the following computations of the sample means X-bar and the sample ranges, compute the lower and upper control limits and determine whether the process is in control. Use TABLE 10.2 on page 204 of your textbook to find the parameters for control chart limits. Sample X-Bar Range 1 13.8...

An important part of any dispensing process is statistical quality control. At the Billy Goat Gruff Inn, machines are set to dispense 600 ml of soda into every customer's glass. Over time, however, the machine can get "out of control" and dispense too much soda or too little. During 48 hours, every hour, the owner dispenses and checks a glass of dispensed soda and determines the actual volume of soda dispensed. The average volumes of the dispensed soda during the...

    29) A large beverage company would like to use statistical process control to monitor a new bottling machine designed to load liquid into 350-ml bottles. This company knows that the exact amount the machine places in each bottle can naturally vary by a small amount, but does not have any more specific information about the process. The company operated this new machine under careful supervision, confident that the machine was under complete control, for 7 hours. Each hour, a sample...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
