physics

A rocket is fired at 48m/s, in a direction 400 to the horizontal. It explodes in mid air, 4s after the launch. Find the speed of the rocket just before the explosion.(assume that the motion of the rocket is approximately similar to a projectile motion)

Answer #1

u = 48 m/s

ux = 48 cos 40

uy = 48 sin 40

t = 4s

vy = uy + at

= 48 sin 40 - ( 9.8) * 4

= -8.346 m/s

v = sqrt ( vx^2 + vy^2)

= 37.705 m/s
