Question

I. Lets suppose for simplicity that the gravitational field strength is g m/s? A projectile is shot horizontally from a height of 30 meters, quite a way up, with initial speed Vo 10 m/s. It strikes the side of a tower after traveling a horizontal distance of 20 meters. Show your work 10 30m (a) at what height y above the ground tloes the projectile strike the ˋ > 20m tower? 0 26 b) what are the vertical and horizontal components vi, vy of its velocity when it hits the tower? int: time o flight)

Answer #1

here,

initial horizontal speed , u0 = 10 m/s

let the time of flight be t

t = 20 /u0 = 2 s

a)

the vertical drop , h1 = 0 + 0.5 * g * t^2

h1 = 0.5 * 9.81 * 2^2

h1 = 19.6 m

the height y above the ground , y = 30 - h1 = 10.4 m

b)

the final vertical speed , vy = 0 + g * t

vy = 19.6 m/s

horizontal component of velocity , vx = u0 = 10 m/s

    Relative Velocity and Projectile Motion . a)An airplane moves horizontally with a constant velocity VA/G 300m/s with respect to ground at height H = 600m. The plane fires a container, which has a speed VC/A = 300m/s and direction α = 300 with respect to the airplane immediately after the firing. The container performs a projectile motion and hits the ground at a horizontal distance L from the point of the firing (see figure a)What is the velocity (horizontal and...

    THE EXPERIMENT The speed "." of a ball as it leaves the spring gun will be measured by projecting the ball horizontally (0-0) from a table top at a distance H above the floor. The gun is then elevated at a known angle 8. The position of the target is calculated using the measured value of v. calculated time of flight, and the equations of motion. A successful prediction with the projectile hitting the target means that the following concepts...
