A flat 1018 steel sample was tested in a tensile machine. Sample dimensions are width = 0.425 inch, thickness = 0.175 inch, original gauge length = 3.45 inch. The sample shows yielding when 3300 lb force is applied with a corresponding change in length of 0.06 inch. From the data, the greatest force applied during testing was 4500 lbs and the sample had elongated by total of 0.5 inch. At fracture, the force applied to the sample decreased to 3000 lbs with a change in length of 0.75 inch.

Determine the area of the sample [in2]

Determine the total strain at failure.

Determine the yield strength.

Determine the ultimate tensile strength.
