For each of the tubing pieces, identify whether the solution inside was hypotonic, hypertonic, or isotonic in comparison to the beaker solution in which it was placed.

Answer:-

  1. First one is hypertonic when it is compared to hypotonic solution of the barker. Then next one is hypotonic when compared. Other one is isotonic and last one is hypotonic solution.
  2. The tubing which have higher concentration of solute has most volume. The higher the solute concentration results the solute to reach equilibrium more fastly than the tubing have lower concentration of solute.
  3. This informs that the membrane of cell try to retain the constant pressure inside and outside of the cell so that balance would be maintained and cell would live easily.
  4. It will start loosing water and inflow of distilled water takes place.
  5. In case of tonicity, the salt in the blood stream is hypertonic to the cells so the body will eliminate the extra salt from the body in order to become isotonic. If there's concentration of water is higher in the body, so the body will try to maintain the equilibrium by eliminating water from the body and prevent cell shrinkage.
  6. The minimum concentration of the beaker solution should be 100% or more than 50% in order to acquire the flow from tubing peace filled with 50% of solution. This is possible only if the water inside the beaker is more than the tubing peace.
  7. It is similar to the cell membrane in terms of the cell permeability as it allows the movement of substance in and out of the cell membrane. This experiment is different because it doesn't require any usage of energy.
