Stem cell therapies -> requires multiple infusions of stem cells.
Why do you think there is a need to have a number of treatments for effective therapy?
Stem cells have the property to proliferate into the blood stream and change into any form of cells in the diseased body. They can cure the degenerative diseases and repair of damaged tissues. Different stem cells intented for different locations in body have different differentiation status and proliferation capacities. They need time and multiple administrations for successfully adapting the grafted cells into the body. Immune system of body needs to absorb the infused cells like the body's own cell mechanism. It takes time and multiple infusions to increase the count of infused stem cells to a level to cure disease.

What are stem cells and what do you think about the ethics of stem cell research? What do you think are some potential benefits or problems resulting from this research and development?
1/Do you know how stem cells are retrieved ? 2 Does a zygote ( early fetus) have to be destroyed in order to do stem cell research ? 3/ Do you think stem cell research should be stopped or allowed to continue ? Why ?
Question 3 What is the purpose of Stem Cell Therapy? Use of stem cells to prevent an animal from aging once it reaches maturity Use of stem cells to create an embryo (without using a fertilized egg) Use of stem cells to create a new individual (for example the sheep Dolly) Use of stem cells to fix or replace tissues that have been damaged Use of stem cells to change one type of tissue into another (for example, muscle tissue...
1. Why is iPS cell therapy using third-party donor cells more feasible than using cells donated from the patient being treated? O Treatment with iPS cells is much more cost prohibitive when iPS cells are donated by the patient being treated. O Donor iPS cells from the patient cannot be used because they contain the disease being treated. O Third-party donor cells are less likely to contain dangerous mutations that can lead to tumor formation. O Third-party donors are screened...
"Stem cells are undifferentiated, primitive cells with the ability both to multiply and to differentiate into specific kinds of cells. Stem cells hold the promise of allowing researchers to grow specialized cells or tissue, which could be used to treat injuries or disease (e.g., spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, strokes, burns)." (Slevin, 2010) Choose ONE of the following issues to write your initial discussion posting about and post to the thread with supporting evidence. Title your initial...

Stem cells have been long chosen for different types of tissue engineering. Therefore, the stem cells should be number one choice of any type of tissue engineering, do you agree? Why or why not?
Do you think cognitive behavioral therapy for adolescent depression is effective? Why or why not?
