Question 7
A 18.5-lbm/gal mud is entering a centrifuge at a rate of 26.5 gal/min
along with dilution water which enters the centrifuge at a rate of 15 gal/
min. The density of the centrifuge underflow is 22.6 lbm/gal while the
density of the centrifuge overflow is 9.0 lbm/gal. The mud contains 20
lbm/bbl Wyoming bentonite and 3 lbm/bbl deflocculant. The densities of
bentonite and deflocculant are 21.7 lbm/gal and 20.3 lbm/gal,
respectively. Compute the rate at which Wyoming bentonite, deflocculant,
water, and API barite should be added to the mixing pit to maintain the
mud properties constant
