Answer #1

Action potentials of a given neuron are generally of the same amplitude, but postsynaptic potentials can be of varying amplitudes - True.

Action potentials do not vary in amplitude or intensity since it is an ”all or nothing” process. But the postsynaptic potentials varies based on summation of IPSP and EPSP.

2. The lipid bilayer is permeable to certain ions such as K+ and Cl- - False.

It is not permeable for K+ and Cl- but are transported by facilitated transport through channel proteins.

3. A major function of the midbrain is consolidation of short term memories into long term memories - False.

The midbrain play role in motor movement, especially movements of the eye, and in auditory and visual processing.

4. In both the brain and the spinal cord, gray matter is found on the surface - False.

Grey matter is located on the surface of the brain where is in spinal cord it is located inside.

5. The primary visual cortex of one cerebral hemisphere receives input from both visual fields - False.

Left hemispherical visual cortex  receives signals from the right visual field, and the visual cortex in the right hemisphere receives signals from the left visual field.

6. The anterior root of the spinal cord only carries motor impulses that travel away from the CNS - True.

7. Receptors determine whether a particular neurotransmitter is excitatory or inhibitory - True.

8. Postganglionic neurons of the parasympathetic nervous system generally release epinephrine/norepinephrine False.
