Answer #1

the power produced by wind turbine P =

where A is area = 0.785*60^2 = 2827.43m^2

V is velocity of air

Cp is the efficiency of turbine = 0.90

1.5*10^6 = 0.5*1*2827.43*0.9 *v^3

v = 10.56m/s

putting the value of velocity into the velocity height relation we get

10.56=8(1.5(h/100)-.5(h/100)^3)

so the solutions for h are

h1 = 206.79941
h2 = -103.3997 + i * 45.54663
h3 = -103.3997 - i * 45.54663

hence the only real solution is h = 206.79m

is the height of the wind turbine

    A wind turbine is located 1000 m from the seashore and exposed to winds at 30 km/hr. The blades of the turbine are 20 m in length. In order to avoid lower wind velocity near the ground, the turbine tower is placed high enough so that the blades are at least 3 m above the boundary layer. What should be the height of the axis of the turbine? Use air properties at 10 C, and assume the boundary layer is...

    7.26. The conversion of the kinetic energy of wind to electricity may be an attractive altemative to the use of fossil fuels. Typically, wind causes the rotor of a turbine to turn, and a generator converts the rotational kinetic energy ofthe rotor into electricity. Power generated by a wind turbine (Ws) can be estimated from the density of the air (p), wind speed (u), and turbine rotor diameter (D) using the following formula лD? 1 W. ти* х п, where...
