3. Nonpolar molecules that repel water molecules are said to be hydrophobic; molecules having ion-dipole interaction
or that form a hydrogen bond with water molecules are said to be hydrophilic. For complicated organic compounds,
we normally refer to the nonpolar end (with primarily C and H) as the hydrophobic end, and the region with the
multiple polar functional groups (i.e., −OH and −NH2) as the hydrophilic end. Please determine the hydrophobic
and hydrophilic ends for benzyl alcohol.

    7. If an ionic bond is stronger than a dipole-dipole interaction, how can water dissolve an ionic compound?    None of these     The ion-dipole interactions of a bunch of water molecules gang up on the strong ionic bond and pull it into the solution.     The ions never overcome their interatomic attraction and therefore are not soluble.     The ionic bond is weakened by the ion-dipole interactions and ionic repulsion ejects the ions from the crystal.     The ion-dipole...

Questions 7-15 The molecule is ethane 71 2 O ACTIVITY 1.2.1 Biological Macromolecules in 3-D 7. Orient the two molecules so that portions of the mo lecules that would normally form intermolecular bonds lie next to each other. In this activity, you will build molecular models of biologically important molecules using ball-and-spring molecular model 1) What intermolecular forces help to hold these mo- building kits and then you will view these and other molecules lecules together! of interest using computer-generated...
