The below 2-bit transmitter is used to emit equally likely messages over a channel that

is corrupted by AWGN with zero mean and two-sided PSD No/2 = 1 W/Hz. The BFSK

modulator uses the same orthonormal basis functions as those in the lower arms. Assuming

the input bit format is unipolar NRZ with amplitudes 5v and 0v for representing logic ‘1’

and logic ‘0’ respectively.

a) Write down the equations of the possible output signals.

b) Sketch to scale the output signals in the signal space showing the bits assigned to

each message point, and then draw the decision boundaries and decision regions.

c) Find the average energy of the transmitted signals.

d) Calculate the minimum average probability of error.

e) Design a coherent receiver for the plotted constellation.
