The self-evaluation can be done by focusing our long-term career objective, once you want to know what additional skills you want to build then you need to map out a plan together and make sure you’re in agreement. We can do the self-assessment to transform ourselves as an effective Project Manager in future

  • What are our biggest priorities right now?
  • Am I on track?
  • Is there anything I need to focus on?
  • What skills I need to improve on?
  • Where I need to devote more time and energy?

In my view the formal structured way to assess your competencies and areas for improvement can be done by as follows:

  1. Think about the competencies we need to develop for the successful project manager of the future
  2. Once you identified these core competencies, review the definition and behavioral examples of the competency you’d like to assess.
  3. Where and how have your experiences demonstrated competence in the past
  4. Create a plan for the action how to improve these competencies

I have created below checklist as action plan to address the competencies and attributes that I think needs to be developed to become a highly successful project manager
