Out of these four protein chains, two are alpha helices and two are beta pleated sheets. Each of alpha helix and beta – pleated sheet is the secondary polypeptide structure made by amino acid chains. These amino acid chains are nothing but the primary structure of protein. The hemoglobin structure also contains an iron atom called heme group. It is the oxygen binding site of hemoglobin.
