Answer #1

Solution,

Given that ,

mean = M = 30

standard deviation = s = 10

1) P(x < 20 ) = P[(x - M) / s < ( 20 - 30) / 10 ]

= P(z < -1.00 )

Using z table

= 0.1587

2) 1) P(x > 30 ) = 1 - P[(x - M) / s < ( 30 - 30) / 10 ]

= 1 - P(z < 0.00 )

Using z table

= 1 - 0.5000

= 0.5000

3) P( 10 < x < 50) = P[( 10 - 30 )/ 10 ) < (x - M) /s < ( 50 - 30 ) / 10 ) ]

= P( -2.00 < z < 2.00)

= P(z < 2.00 ) - P(z < -2.00)

Using z table

= 0.9772 - 0.0228

=0.9544
