Explain why there is no reaction when sodium is added to a solution of methyllithium but when gallium is added to a solution of methyllithium, trimethylgallium is formed.
According to the series of activity of metals, which describes which metals are more reactive than others when reacting with each other, Lithium is more reactive than Sodium, but in turn Gallium is more reactive than Lithium.
This means that Gallium displaces Lithium ions, but Sodium cannot do the same.

What reaction occurs when sodium hydroxide is added to the stearic acid in cyclohexane and water? How does this change the solubility of cyclohexane in water? Does HCl reverse this reaction when it is added? If so why? Does sodium chloride have the same type of behavior as stearic acid or is it different? Explain why these two solutes are the same or different. (Please answer in your own words.)
2.When concentrated H2SO4 (18M) is added to a saturated solution of sodium sulfate, a white precipitate is formed. Write a net-ionic equation for the equilibrium in saturated sodium sulfate, and explain the change in terms of Le Chatelier’s principle. 3.A solution contains the blood-red hexathiocyanatoferrate(III) complex ion, Fe(SCN)63-, in equilibrium with the iron(III) ion, Fe3+, and six thiocyanate ions, SCN-. If the solution is diluted with water, will the color deepen, fade, or stay the same? Why? In addition to...
1. In this particular reaction, the sodium hydroxide solution is added to the reaction mixture containing both acetone and benzaldehyde. Would it be acceptable to add the acetone to a solution containing both sodium hydroxide and benzaldehyde instead? Hint: Can the aldehyde in this reaction react with the sodium hydroxide to form an enolate?
Why must the sodium hypochlorite in the electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction be added to the reaction mixture in ice?
Discuss the reaction of sodium iodide with sodium hypochlorite solution. What happens tosodium iodide when treated with sodium hypochlorite solution? Explain the change in color that is observed upon addition of sodium hypochlorite to the mixture and as the reaction proceeds.
Explain why each change in conditions would affect the reaction rate of reaction when sodium metal reacts with chlorine gas to form NaCl? As a catalyst is added to the mixture the reaction rate will increase because As temperature decreases the reaction rate will decrease because As volume decreases the reaction rate will increase because As concentration increases the reaction rate will increase because As the surface area of a molecule is decreased the reaction rate will decrease because As...

1. If a solution of hydrochloric acid is added to a solution of sodium carbonate, what is observed? Write the net ionic equation of any reaction that may occur (4P). 2. You have a clear colorless unknown solution with a group I cation. After adding some hydrochloric acid solution you obtain a white precipitate. Addition of ammonia causes the white precipitate to dissolve. Acidifying with nitric acid makes the precipitate reappear. Which cation do you suggest was in the unknown...
