Answer #1

Ans:

The lie-detector test measures numerous physiological changes which are associated with electrodermal activity. Emotional arousal of a person and sympathetic activity are interrelated and dependent.

Galvanic skin response which is primary channel in lie detector test gives details about changes in the ability of skin to conduct electricity. Galvanic skin response rises as soon as the subjects secrete more sweat, by means of skin is better able to conduct electricity. If any question is asked to a person in a lie detector test, and if a person is telling a lie, there is change in affective state of person for the Galvanic skin response and also autonomic tone changes that is sympathetic in nature in skin and tissues beneath it. There will be change in Galvanic skin potential and Galvanic skin resistance as there is change in peripheral autonomic tone it results into changes in sweating and blood flow. These are physiological changes.

Lie Detector: Suppose a lie detector test can detect a lie 97% of the time. You get hooked up and tell 10 truths and 10 lies. What is the probability that at least one of your lies goes undetected? Round your answer to 3 significant digits*.

A new lie-detector test has been devised and must be tested before it is put into use. Three hundred people are selected at random, and each person draws and keeps a card from a box of 300 cards. Half the cards instruct the person to lie and the others instruct the person to tell the truth. Of those who lied, 90% fail the new lie-detector test (that is the test indicated lying). Of those who told the truth, 6% failed...

Lie detector tests are used in our society by law enforcement agencies to help determine the guilt or innocence of a suspect. The basis of these exams is to assess the body’s reaction to stress via our sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system. The effects of the sympathetic nervous system are widespread. Pick one gland, organ, or system that is affected by the sympathetic nervous system, describe the physiology of its actions on the chosen structure/system, and how the...

Lie Detector: Suppose a lie detector allows 30% of all lies to go undetected. (a) If you take the test and tell 10 lies, what is the probability of having 7 or more go undetected? Round your answer to 3 decimal places. (b) Would 7 undetected lies be an unusually high number* of undetected lies? Use the criteria that a number (x) is unusually large if P(x or more) ≤ 0.05. Yes, that is an unusually high number of undetected...

Polygraph lie-detector machines are commonly used in criminal investigations. The device measures nervous excitement, operating on the idea that if a person is telling the truth they will remain calm. The American Polygraph Association claims that polygraphs accurately identify liars 90% of the time. In other words, if a person lied the test results will be positive 90% of the time. Although the polygraph test is good at identifying liars, there is a 50% chance that the polygraph test will...

A polygraph (lie detector) is an instrument used to determine if an individual is telling the truth. These tests are considered to be 89% reliable. In other words, if an individual lies, there is a 0.89 probability that the test will detect a lie. Let there also be a 0.100 probability that the test erroneously detects a lie even when the individual is actually telling the truth. Consider the null hypothesis, "the individual is telling the truth," to answer the...
