`Hey,

Note: Brother if you have any queries related the answer please do comment. I would be very happy to resolve all your queries.

  1. Column Chart Type
  2. Bar Chart Type
  3. Line Chart Type
  4. Pie Chart Type
  5. Area Chart Type

A column chart is probably the most simple chart type that you can create in PowerPoint. What makes a column chart the most preferred chart type is that it follows human thinking. We are all used to identifying a taller column as representing more success, more sales, more profits, more reach, etc. And column charts fit in perfectly with such human thinking! No wonder they are so popular.

Like bar or line charts, column charts also work best to compare values over a period of time such as days, weeks, months, quarters, or years. Of course, you can also use column charts to categorize more than just time, the categories you choose are entirely for you to decide!

In the sample column chart that you can see in Figure 1, below you will notice that this period of time typically shows up within the X axis, which is also called the Category axis because it represents categories. The categories in this case are the successive years, highlighted in purple within Figure 1, below.

A Bar chart maps data using bars within a chart's Plot area. A bar is essentially a rectangle that's typically thin width-wise and long length-wise. In simple terms, a Bar chart is a Column chart with columns rotated 90 degrees!

Data that is arranged in columns or rows on a worksheet can be plotted in a Bar chart. Bar charts illustrate comparisons among individual items. While Bar charts do not possess the utter simplicity of Column charts where a higher column indicates better results, they can be more suitable to present data in an almost timeline-like style.

Consider using Bar charts when:

  • When the axis labels are long
  • The values relate to longer durations or larger quantities.

Figure 1, below shows a typical Bar chart. This bar chart looks at the 10 top tea consuming countries worldwide with their per capita consumption of tea.

Line charts can display continuous data over time, set against a common scale, and are therefore ideal for showing trends in data at equal intervals. In a line chart, category data is distributed evenly along the horizontal axis, and all value data is distributed evenly along the vertical axis. The line chart can be used if your category labels are text, and are representing evenly spaced values such as months, quarters, or fiscal years.

Pie charts show the size of items in one data series, proportional to the sum of the items. The data points in a pie chart are displayed as a percentage of the whole pie.

Consider using a pie chart when:

  • You only have one data series that you want to plot.
  • None of the values that you want to plot are negative.
  • Almost none of the values that you want to plot are zero values.
  • You do not have more than seven categories.
  • The categories represent parts of the whole pie.

Area chart emphasize the magnitude of change over time, and can be used to draw attention to the total value across a trend. For example, data that represents profit over time can be plotted in an Area chart to emphasize the total profit. By displaying the sum of the plotted values, an area chart also shows the relationship of parts to a whole.

Kindly revert for any queries

Thanks.
