The effect of exposure to high levels of alcohol consumption was
compared to occasional or no alcohol consumption among adult males
and females. It is hypothesized that high levels of alcohol
consumption is associated with myocardial infarction (MI). This
association was studied with 596 incident cases of MI diagnosed in
the emergency rooms of several hospitals and compared to 1012 other
subjects who visited the same emergency rooms for reasons other
than cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. All subjects were
asked to report average weekly alcohol intake over the past month
prior to their hospital visit.
After completing the recruitment, the investigators compiled their
data in the following table:
Alcohol Consumption |

Frequent (>2 drinks /week) |
Occasional (1-2 drinks /week) |
None (0/week) |

Psychologists at an university compared the levels of alcohol consumption of male and female freshman students. Each student was asked to estimate the amount of alcohol (beer, wine, or liquor) they consume in a typical week. Summary statistics for 125 males and 182 females are provided in the accompanying table Click here to view the table a. For each gender, find a 95% confidence interval for mean weekly alcohol consumption For males, the 95% confidence interval is ( (Round to...

Question 7 Item 7 (The following passage is excerpted from an article published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association in 2003.) Obesity (including overweight) is the principal public health nutrition problem in the United States, largely because of its ability to increase chronic disease risk and its increasing prevalence among adults and children. The rapidity of the increase is startling. The prevalence has increased sharply just within the past decade, and the increase is occurring so quickly that...
Alcohol is consumed for social, religious, familial, and even
business reasons. Over half of American adults enjoy at least one
alcoholic drink per month. Moderate consumption has been associated
with some health benefits. Overconsumption results in serious
health issues and other negative consequences. Individuals
suffering from alcohol use disorder have impaired control over
their drinking even though they are aware of the negative academic,
social, familial, professional, legal, and/or personal impacts
their usage can have. They may neglect their social,...
