O-rings are used mainly for sealing purposes. It is a elastomer with circular cross-section designed to be seated in a groove. It get compressed during assembly of parts creating a seal at the interface preventing passage of air or fluid.

Examples are O-rings used in automobile engines to prevent passage of oil into combustion chamber.
