. Lately there has been some buzz in the vitamin world about the anti-aging effects of NAD+. An article published in the December 19, 2016 issue of the journal Cell on research conducted by researchers linked declining NAD+ levels to aging. The nutrition world followed with NAD+ supplements and “claims” that NAD+ is the anti-aging supplement by reversing mitochondrial function depletion. This is a new field of study and may eventually be demonstrated as advantageous. However, we know from basic metabolic studies that NAD+ must be available for cells to function. We have studied reactions for oxidation of NADH to NAD+ to maintain adequate metabolic rates. What are the reactions or processes by which NADH that is produced is re-oxidized to NAD+ under anaerobic conditions?

i. For the anaerobic reactions or processes show the reactions for regeneration of NAD+ from NADH under anaerobic conditions. Also describe where and in what organisms and under what conditions these take place (3 pts). [ insert full reactions here ] ii. Then give the name and give the overall reaction for the process by which NADH is re-oxidized to NAD+ under aerobic conditions.
