Someone slides a fork off of a table. The fork leaves the table at 1.0 m/s. The table is horizontal and 1.0 m tall. What is the velocity of the fork just before it hits the floor? Express your answer in unit vector and polar notation.

h = 0.5 gt^2

1 = 4.9 t^2

t = 0.4517 s

vertical velocity

vy = gt = 4.427 m/s

net velocity (in vector form)

v = i - 4.427 j

in polar form

v = ( sqrt ( 4.427^2 + 1), arctan ( 4.427/1))

v = (4.539 m/s, - 77.271 deg)
