For the most part, all database management systems perform the same tasks, which are to enable users to create/ edit objects and access information. The way each system accomplishes this is different, as are some other features and functionalities. If you were a database administrator and tasked to select a database system, based on your information, what features and functions would you consider most important in making your decision, and why?

Database management system or DBMS is a set of program which is used to manipulate a database.As a database administrator my duty is to think about the security of database,  monitor and coordinate the use of database. authorize access to database, using needed hardware and software .Also it is my duty to maintain a good database that provide an efficient response time.The features and functions that i consider when selecting a database system is as follows :

• Flexibility : In a database it is necessary to insert and update or extend when ever required , therefore the database system should be flexible.
• Redundancy should be controlled : Redundancy in storing data makes the database inconsistent.So redundancy should be reduced.
• Block unauthorized Access to database : In a database all the information should not be accessed by others who have no rights to access it.So unauthorized access should be restricted.
• Object oriented database system : The database should be able to use with the high level programming languages .It should provide a persistent storage for objects in the program.The data structure provided by database system should be compatible with data structures of high level programming languages.Otherwise it will create a problem called impedance mismatch problem .
• Backup and recovery : If the software or hardware used is failed , then the data should be restored.So database system should have backup and recovery options.
• Should be able to use integrity constraints : Database system should be able to specify the constraints for the data in database.
• Multiple user Interface : There are many users who belongs to different categories who are using the database.They all have different knowledge on accessing the database , so it should be easier for all type of users to access the database.
• Data Protection : The data should be protected, means all the information should be encrypted before storing and sharing.
