Dr. Joseph Wolpe’s Systematic Desensitization Therapy aims at reducing anxiety through relaxation techniques such as meditation. Clients would be asked to list out all that they are afraid of or anxious about. They would be then taught relaxation techniques because the assumption is that one could either be relaxed or anxious not both. Once the clients learn to relax, they would be introduced stimuli such as things, place or people that scare them. One who has learnt to relax would definitely overcome anxiety this forming a new behaviour. This is very similar to the Classical Conditioning.
