The minimum speed required can be calculated by considering the condition when the hamster is at the top of the spinning wheel, completely upside down. At that point there is gravitational force acting downwards and the centripetal force acting upwards. Let us say that the hamsters speed is v. Then we can write, (vertically the mass is at static equilibrium),
