Why is C3S more reactive than C2S in an ordinary Portland cement?
During course of reaction C3S or C2S with water, calcium silicate hydrate and calcium hydroxide are formed it was consider doubtful that the product of hydration of of both C3S and C2S results in the formation of the the same hydrated compound but later on it was seen that ultimately e the hydrates of C3S and C2S will turn out to the same.
C3S produce a comparatively less quantity of calcium silicate hydrates and what quantity of Ca(OH)2 then that formed in the hydration of C2S.Ca(OH)2 it not a desirable product in the concrete mass it is soluble in water and get leached out making the concrete porous, practically in hydraulic structures under search conditions it is useful to use cement with higher percentage of c2s content
C3s readily reacts with water and produces more heat of hydration it is responsible for early strength of concrete a cement with more c3s content it is better for cold weather concreting the quality and density of calcium silicate hydrate formed out of c3s is slightly inferior to that formed by c2s
C2S hydrates rather slowly. It is responsible for the latest and tough concrete it produce less heat of hydration. The calcium silicate hydrate formed is rather dense and its specific surface is higher in general the quality of the product half hydration of c2s is better than that produced in the hydration of c3s figure shows the development of strength of pure compounds.
What are the advantages of using blended cement over Type I ordinary portland cement?
Sketch the rate of heat as a function of time for an ordinary Portland cement. Label each stage on the graph. Specify the name of each stage and approximate time/duration. Explain the chemical/physical processes at each stage. Mark initial and final set on the graph
explain pre-stressed concrete that is post-tensioned and properties like heat and ordinary portland cement explain short term and long term behaviours
5.5 The shape and surface texture of aggregate particles are important for both portland cement concrete and asphalt concrete. a. For preparing PCC, would you prefer round and smooth aggregate or rough and angular aggregate? Briefly explain why (no more than two lines). b. For preparing HMA, would you prefer round and smooth aggregate or rough and angular aggregate? Briefly explain why (no more than two lines).
