An increase in the number of consumers shifts the demand curve to the right

Reason

Change in the number of consumers is dependent on population size and composition. It means if the population increases then the number of consumers will also increase which will lead to an increase in demand for a particular commodity at the same price, thus shift the demand curve to the right. For eg Increase in the birthrate will increase the demand for baby products at the same price.

If the population decreases then the number of consumers will also decrease which will lead to a decrease in demand for a particular commodity at the same price, thus shift the demand curve to the left.  

Hence option C is correct
