Question 1)  Please answer each of the questions using the data as provided in the most optimal manner.

  1. Do Exercise #12, part on page 317 of the Freund et al. (2010) textbook.  The question is reproduced below.  The data is also provided online

  1. Provide the estimated standard error for the estimated mean of the WA medium.

  1. Provide the 95% regular confidence interval on the mean difference between the WA and RDA medium.
  1. Separate out the means using Fisher’s LSD and explain whether or not this would be a protected test.

  1. Use Tukey’s test to separate the means.  Any differences from your answer to part a)?  Explain.

  1. Consider a Bonferroni adjustment to separate the means.  Which test would be more powerful?   The Bonferroni test or the Tukey test?  Explain.

  1. Would the difference between the two groups having the smallest and largest sample means still be significant using Scheffe’s test?

(f) Bonferroni test is more powerful because Bonferroni has more power when the number of comparisons is small, whereas Tukey is more powerful when testing large numbers of means.

(g) Since the p-value for both groups is greater than the significance level, we cannot say that the difference between the groups is significant.
