Which of the following would be important for the catalysis of a reaction by any enzyme?

A. the capacity of the substrate to diffuse
B. the capacity of the enzyme to bind the substrate
C. the capacity of the enzyme to bind the substate and never release it or the product of the reaction
D.A and B are both important.
E.A, B and C are all important.

You have set up an enzyme catalyzed reaction with a particular Vmax. What would be the best approach to double the Vmax for the reaction?

A. Double the amount of substrate
B.Double the amount of enzyme
C. Allow the reaction to reach an equilibrium state
D. Make a genetically engineered enzyme with a Km that is double that of the original enzyme and set up the same reaction conditions with this new enzyme
E.All of the above (A, B, C and D) would be good approaches

Answer #1

Option D) Both option a and b important. The capacity of substrate to diffuse in so that the product could diffuse out. The capacity of an enzyme to bind the substrate by fitting its conformation. This makes the enzyme-substrate complex. Hence, the product is formed.
