To control the start of motor, various starting methods like Direct-Online start, star-delta transformer start, auto transformer start are possible. The need of starters is initially the motor needs higher voltage for starting, then lower voltage during its operation. This change in voltage is controlled by the controller circuit.

Briefly dividing the faults -

1. Open circuit fault

2. Short circuit fault

3. Ground fault

Due to overcurrent from the power circuit, the circuit breaker opens and motor fails to start. Best way is to measure the voltage at the terminal and motor circuit terminal. And find the difference in voltage.

If the contactors are not getting energized, this also results in problem in start of motor.
