If the "START" switch is energized, the current loop for the secondary of the transformer X1-X2 becomes complete and the motor starts to run. However, it is given that when the "START" switch is released, the contactor de-energizes. The reason may be because the contactor capacitor in parallel with the "START" switch may be of a low value, resulting in a high impedance path for the AC current. This reduces the current through the mains connected to the motor, resulting in th contactor de-energizing.
Note that the above may be one of the reasons, there may be
other reasons as well.
