Patrol Methods and Strategies Question 1: Quite often we observe field officers traveling throughout our communities in marked patrol vehicles. What are they doing? The major traditional activities that these officers perform includes watching for suspicious vehicles and violators of the law and curfew violators. This has been one of the major roles of these officers conventionally although there have been various modifications made in the field. Although the methods by which this is implemented has varied over time and area, the core principle behind this remains the same.  

Secondly, it is for the process of investigation of certain conditions or the presence of any existing or new threat/hazard to life and property. These are one of most effective way by which damage can be prevented and new policies can be devised. It also helps in determining the trend in criminal activity. Thirdly, it is for the purpose of initial investigation of crimes as well as crime scenes. These provide a platform by which evidence is not lost and also helps in developing primary reports.

Finally, they contribute in maintaining good community relations along with bringing improvement in the emergency response rates.
