2. An electrochemical gradient is a gradient of electrochemical potential, usually for an ion that moves across membrane.

The gradient consists of two parts, the chemical gradient or difference in solute concentration across a membrane and the electrical gradient or difference in charge across a membrane. When there are equal concentrations of an Ion across a permeable membrane, the iron will move across the membrane from the area of higher concentration to the area of lower concentration through simple diffusion. Ions carry an electric charge advance and electrical potential across cell membrane.if there is an unequal distribution of charges across the membrane then the difference in electrical potential generate a force that drives ion diffusion until the charges are balanced on both sides of the membrane.

Please summarize this chapter typed clearly. Diffusion Is a passive process of transport. A single substance tends to move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration until the concentration is equal across a space. Facilitated transport Facilitated diffusion is the process of spontaneous passive transport of molecules or ions across a biological membrane via specific transmembrane integral proteins. Channels The integral proteins involved in facilitated transport are collectively referred to as transport proteins, and they...
