In a law office, the average number of billed hours per day was 145 last year. In the first 65 days of this year, the average number of billed hours per week is 152 with a standard deviation of 45 hours. When testing the hypothesis that the average number of billed hours has increased year this year, the test statistic is 1.77. If the critical value is 1.96, what is your conclusion concerning the null hypothesis? Please show work.

It can be mentioned that null hypothesis here is nothing but the average number of billed hours increased.

This means if the critical value is 1.96, one should accept null hypothesis only if the test statistic is greater than 1.96 but since the test statistic is less the 1.96, you should reject the null hypothesis here.

Therefore the null hypothesis will be rejected
