Answer #1

Answer is B. Species that disperse widely

Explanation:

Speciation Rate is two type: 1> Punctuated Equilibrium : A new species diverges rapidly from the parent species. Factors: small population, rapid environmental changes

1> Gradualism : species diverges slowly. Factors: Large population; stable environment.

A> Wrong; Pollen are taken by wind to long distance with no selection or favoritism. While animal-pollinated plants have specific selection and favoritism due to different species (pollinating agent) and birds. So, divergence in species is more prone in second case.

B> Right: Dispersed species have larger area to interact with environment, geographical changes are seen more in larger area which can become biological barrier to dispersed species resulting more speciation.

C,E> Wrong: Sexual selection in theory seems to support speciation rate but it has one disadvantage : that is all mates (male and female) live in same space. This give a chance to interact further, living small room for divergence. C and E option-similar.

D> Wrong : In food chain herbivorous are at bottom, therefore they have large and stable population favoring Gradualism. Vice -versa for insect eating insects.

Summary: For higher speciation, there is need of barrier of any kind which is more in dispersed species.

    1. Which of the following statements is FALSE? Homeotherms can sustain a high level of physical activity for long periods. Homeotherms require a very low amount of glucose for daily activities. Homeotherms can generate energy rapidly when the situation demands. Homeothermy allows organisms to function at a higher level in cold environments. Homeotherms have relatively higher metabolic rates than similar-sized poikilotherms. 2. The following statements apply to concepts and material discussed in Chapter 15; identify which statement is TRUE. Answers: A common ancestor of two species on evolutionary trees can be found at the point where the two branches meet. Humans evolved from Neanderthals about 50,000 years ago. Mitochondrial DNA is not particularly useful when trying to determine the movement pattern of humans historically across the globe. Scientists can estimate when species diverged from a common ancestor by comparing their Karyotypes. We...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
