Answer #1

Philip Jacob is considered as one of the stall wards of medical economy, he gave many theories and models which postulated how economics could be used for the upliftment of the medical services in the nation and how medical science and economics are so inter connected that the development of one cannot be done without developing the other. Let us here discuss, Philip Jacob’s descriptive explanatory and evaluative model with the help of a medical care issue or problem.

Let us suppose that, due to the exogenous pollution emission by a firm in a locality for about few years now, the people of the locality are slowly starting to generate diseases and health problems which were not detected in the area for many decades. The people in the area are of the view that it is the pollution emitted from the factory that is the cause of all the issues being faced by them. Citizens of the locality have started to develop medical issues like migraines, stomach indigestions, poor visibility issues, problems with hearing and talking. All these are big concerns for the people of the area. In his descriptive explanatory and evaluative model, Philip Jacob has mentioned that a medical problem being faced by a person or group of persons explains by itself what type of conditions had prevailed in order for the medical condition to develop. The medical issue faced by an individual explained by itself the conditions under which the individual has had to live for him to undergo this medical problem. Jacob’s argues that it is evolution that determines the overall economic and more importantly the medical condition of an individual. The physic of a person develops according to the persisting environment around the person. If the surroundings are good and lively, it is more expected that the person is least likely to fall in to any medical problem. However, if the surroundings are least livable, the chances of the individual falling in to a medical illness is most likely. Therefore, in such a situation, the individual should decide the value which is dearer to him. Whether living in the locality is giving him more value, for which he is ready to bear the pollution, or the negative value from the pollution is causing more harm to him.
