The important performance measures in my organization are - utilization and compliance. Utilization refers to the amount of time you are deployed in project. Unless you are deployed in projects, you are not a revenue source for the company and the company rather views you as a cost center. Compliance refers to the adherence to various risk processes and policies of the company. Being an audit and advisory company, the company is exposed to diverse business litigation risks and hence it is imminent that everyone adheres to risk processes.
Competitor firm on the other hand evaluates performance on the basis of quality of delivery in the deployed project.
The result is that, while employees in our firm takes up projects indiscriminately, since they have to keep the utilization high, both morale and quality of the projects supper. People are afraid to sit on bench without project and hence takes up any project that comes on the way, even if it is not aligned to interest.
Employees of the competitor are not under pressure to keep utilization high. Hence they take-up fewer projects which are aligned with interest and deliver superbly. Hence the competitor is being able to command higher rates for similar work because their quality of work is much higher
