Derive a linear expression for Cp(T) of liquid ethanol if Cp(0oC) = 103.1 J/mol oC and Cp(100oC) = 158.8 J/mol oC. Use the derived expression and data in Table B.1 to calculate the heat transfer rate (kW) required to bring a stream of liquid ethanol flowing at 75.0 L/s from 25 oC to the boiling point at 1 atm

Answer #1

Theoretical Explanation:

Linear expression of the heat capacity can be found using cross multiplication method.

Then using the linear expression the heat capacity of the given temperatures can be found. Then the heat transfer rte can be found.

At 1 atm the boiling point of ethanol can be taken from thermodynamic tables. Also the heat capacity can be found from the thermodynamic tables. Using these heat capacity values also the heat transfer rate can be found.
