__________pathogens only cause diseases under certain
circumstances, e.g. in immune compromised
hosts
1. The correct answers are-
B. Coupling with an endergonic reaction
C. Phospho Anhydride bond hydrolysis
Most of the free energy of ATP is present in the triphosphate groups. These bonds are known as high energy bonds. The two bonds between the phosphates are equal high-energy bonds which is known as a phosphoanhydride bonds. It releases energy to perform cellular reactions. ATP is hydrolyzed to ADP. The ∆G for the hydrolysis of 1 mole of ATP is -57 kJ/mol. The energy released from the hydrolysis of ATP into ADP is used to perform different cell function. It occurs by coupling the exergonic reaction of ATP hydrolysis with endergonic reactions. Sodium-potassium pumps use the energy which is obtained from exergonic ATP hydrolysis. It pumps sodium and potassium ions across the cell membrane while phosphorylation operates the endergonic reaction.
2.Some anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria are able to use H2S as an electron source.
Bacterial anoxygenic photosynthesis is different from the oxygenic photosynthesis which is performed by higher plant groups. They are able to use hydrogen sulfide rather than water and generate sulfur instead of oxygen as by product.
