1. Wine averages about 12% (v/v) ethanol in water. A standard wine pour is 6 fluid ounces (177mL). What volume in mL of ethanol is present in a glass of wine?
2. If a 12oz can (355mL) has 6% (v/v) ethanol what is its total ethanol volume in mL?
3. For the ethanol problems you should find similar values but one should be outlying. Given your values why would you think the odd one out is that way in terms of health and medical concerns? Give a short answer (40 word max)
My answer for question 1 and 2. Please check if it's the correct answer with the right sig figs.
1. 21.2 mL
2. 21.3 mL
Please help me with the 3rd question. Thank you in advance!!
Your answers are okay. The issue with significant figures is that you should report your answers with a number of sig figs equal to the lowest number of sig figs in your data. In the first case, the concentration of alcohol (6%) has only one sig fig, which means you should report you result as 20 mL. The second one should have 2 sig figs, meaning it should be 21 mL.
I don't find any of the values as outlying value. As it says, they are quite similar, which is the opposite of the definition of an outlier.
