Answer #1

true Since radio waves are longer than optical waves, radio telescopes are made differently than the telescopes used for visible light. Radio telescopes must be physically larger than an optical telescopes in order to make images of comparable resolution. But they can be made lighter with millions of small holes cut through the dish since the long radio waves are too big to "see" them

please rate it up thanks :)

Radio waves of wavelength 174 m from a galaxy reach a radio telescope by two separate paths as shown in the figure below. One is a direct path to the receiver, which is situated on the edge of a tall cliff by the ocean, and the second is by reflection off the water. As the galaxy rises in the east over the water, the first minimum of destructive interference occurs when the galaxy is θ = 24.5° above the horizon....

    (a) A simple telescope demo: We need to build this from scratch. We have an eyeglass lens to get started, which we could use as our eyepiece lens; we would need to buy an objective lens and a cardboard tube (from our favorite online marketplace). Assuming the eyeglass lens is a converging one and has focal length f, what type of objective lens do we need if we would like the telescope to have a magnification factor of 100? What...

Radio station KBOB broadcasts at a frequency of 85.7 MHz on your dial using a radio waves that travel at 3.00X10^8 m/s. . Since nearly all of the station's audience is due south of the transmitter, the managers of KBOB don't want to waste any energy broadcasting to the east and west. They decide to build two towers, transmitting at exactly the same frequency, aligned on an east-west axis. For engineering reasons, the two towers must be at least 10...

The Very Large Array (VLA) is a set of 27 radio telescope dishes in Catron and Socorro counties, New Mexico (see figure below). The antennas can be moved apart on railroad tracks, and their combined signals give the resolving power of a synthetic aperture 36.0 km in diameter.
