In our 7-1-1 fertilizer we must know that

the first number in the ratio 7-1-1 represents percent N in the bag.

=> 7/100 = 0.07 ( 7% ) N in 20 lb bag.

In in 1 bag of 20 lb, lbs N = 0.07 x 20 lbs = 1.4 lbN

no. of bags used = 6

therefore in 6 bags lbs N = 6 x 1.4 = 8.4 lbs N

area to which it is applied = quarter-acre area

and A quarter acre is 10890 square feet

so for 10890 sq ft of area requires = 8.4lbs N

=> for 1000 sq ft = we must have (8.4/10890)x 1000 lbs N

= 0.77 lbs N/M rate
