Answer #1

CoCl2 is fairly soluble in water. In pure water it forms the following equilibrium at sarurated condition.

CoCl2(s)  Co2+ (aq)  + 2Cl- (aq)

Now , when HCl is added , it dissociates to form H+ and Cl- ion the solution . So on addition of HCl to aqueous solution of CoCl2  the concentration of product (Cl-) increases. By Le-chateliers principle with increasing concentration of product the system shifts towards left side (reactant side) thus dissociation of CoCl2 is suppressed . Hence solubility of CoCl2 decreases in presence of common ion Cl-. Such effect is called common ion effect.

So, CoCl2 is more soluble in water than in HCl solution.
