Robust design refers to designing of goods and service which are not just insensitive to variation in manufacturing processes but even when consumers get to use them. It is important for consumers as they get improved and reliable goods and services to use. Whereas it is important for manufacturers as it reduces defects during manufacturing, reduces costs, enhances quality and customer satisfaction.
